3-Day Avon Breast Cancer Walk, Atlanta, Georgia

In Loving Memory Of Betty Wilmot

(1939-1994)

Dedicated to Todd Wilmot, in memory of Betty Wilmot.

“The Decision”

Someone came by my office on a Thursday with a display board and mailing cards and asked my Assistant if they could be left in my office. When I saw the board in the reception area I pulled out a mailing form and began to read. “Walk for Breast Cancer, sixty miles?” I immediately thought of my mother-in-law, Betty, I didn’t flinch, I said, “I want to do this”. I asked my assistant if she would walk with me and I also asked a business client/friend if she would like to do it with me as well. “What a challenge, it’ll be great!” I said.

“The Commitment”

I went to the Avon 3-day site and registered online. I wondered to myself, can I really make this commitment? When I went home and told my husband about the walk, he replied, “I think it’s a great thing to do, honey”. I told him that I am walking in memory of Betty, his mother, who suffered for over eight years in and out of remission with breast cancer. Eventually, the cancer spread to her brain ending her life at the young age of 54. Although Betty never met her grandson Nicholas, Nicholas knows that his grandmother was a wonderful and courageous woman, and her memory will be in his heart and ours forever.
